Our mission for the Central New York School Boards Association is:

  1. to inform public school board members about contemporary issues affecting public education and the operation of public schools;
  2. to provide forums for school board members where they may learn from one another;
  3. and to mobilize board members to effectively influence those outside the schools who also share responsibility for education of our children.

 

Who We Serve:

Our large regional area combined with our many school districts makes CNYSBA one of the largest School Board Associations in New York State.

Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES

(including the Component Districts that are current members: Auburn, Cato-Meridian, Jordan-Elbridge, Moravia, Port Byron, Skaneateles, & Southern Cayuga)

Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES

(including the Component Districts that are current members: Candor, Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, Lansing, Newfield, South Seneca, & Trumansburg)

How We Operate:

Each of the SBA’s listed below select 3 School Board members to represent them on the Board of Directors of the Central New York School Boards Association (CNYSBA). Each Director serves a three-year term.

The five County School Boards Associations that exist in the Central New York Area are: Ononadaga-Madison SBA (OMSBA), Cayuga- Onondaga SBA (COSBA), Cortland-Madison SBA (CMSBA), Oswego County SBA (OCSBA), & Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga SBA (TST SBA).

What We Offer:

  • NYS Mandated Trainings for new School Board Members: Governance, Finance, and Child Abuse Training (with Certificate of Completion).
  • Roundtable Events: In-Person and Virtual for all members of CNYSBA.
  • Board President Roundtable Events: For Board Presidents and Vice Presidents.

  • Annual Legislative Forums: For each BOCES and their component districts.
  • CNYSBA is Partnered with the Statewide School Finance Consortium (SSFC)Which provides fiscal information in real time to districts and is leading the fight statewide for a more equitable, predictable school aid formula for Foundation Aid.
  • Legislative Updates: Provided to all members to keep them apprised of budget & political developments in relation to public education from Albany.
  • Networking: CNYSBA provides School Board Members the opportunity to meet others in the same roll or different rolls within public education. This helps us to Empower, Advocate, Learn, Connect, and Grow from one another.
